Kazeem AYEDEMO
Robberies - Kidnappings
April 10, 2006
A notorious killer in
Ibadan, who has been parading himself as a chieftain of the Oodua
Peoples Congress (OPC), Mr. Kazeem Adeyemo, was on Sunday killed during
a shoot-out with the police.
Adeyemo, who was said to
have killed over 50 people in the Ibadan metropolis, was killed by the
police at Olomi Academy area of the town at about 9.30 a.m after he was
reported to the police over the killing of a man earlier that morning.
The acclaimed OPC
chieftain was also said to have snatched a child from its mother last
Thursday allegedly for rituals. The last straw, according to the
Nigerian Tribune investigation, was the killing of a young man at about
7.30 a.m yesterday.
This, according to the
police, led to an attempt to arrest 42-year-old Adeyemo, but he resisted
it and was later killed during a shoot-out. Oyo State Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Adedeji, said the police had been on
the trail of Adeyemo since April last year when he was reported to the
police for being responsible for a series of killings, robberies and
arson in Ibadan.
According to Adedeji,
“Kazeem Adeyemo has been a household name in the killings of innocent
souls in Ibadan. Over 50 people have been reportedly killed, while
several others were said to have been kidnapped by him in the city. He
had become a great terrorist.”
The PPRO added that
“Adeyemo was killed when he resisted arrest and engaged the police in a
shoot-out after a tip-off by the relatives of a man who was killed this
morning.”
It will be recalled that
a series of allegations had been levelled against the deceased by the
people of Ibadan and published in the Nigerian Tribune last year. He was
accused of kidnapping one Kazeem Alare and nine others at the
Orita-Aperin area of Ibadan.
