In 2006, Mobile renamed Herndon Avenue as Michael Donald Avenue. Mobile's first black
mayor, Sam Jones, presided over the small gathering of Michael Donald's family and
local leaders at the commemoration.

 

 

 

 

Lecia Brooks, education director of the SPLC's Civil Rights Memorial Center, explains
the landmark lawsuit that forced the United Klans of America into bankruptcy.
The suit was filed on behalf of the mother of Michael Donald, who was
