Raymond Plunkett
was executed in the Nevada State Prison on June 30, 1944.
He was a
native of Holly Pond, Alabama and at the time of his death was 30 years
old.
Plunkett was executed for murdering his 5 month old baby. After
killing the baby he attempted suicide by slitting his wrists with a
straight razor.
The murder took place in Ely in eastern Nevada on
December 10, 1942 while the mother was away working at the Troy Laundry.
Plunkett in a statement said that he felt in his own mind that if he
killed the baby he was not good enough to live, so he attempted suicide.
Testimony in his trial showed that he had given orders to various people
to leave his baby alone and not to interfere with it whether it was
crying or not because he wanted to make it tough.
