Jesse Harding Pomeroy Living in Confinement

The doors of the Charleston state Prison, Massachusetts, clanged behind him fifty years ago when he was
a stripling age of 17. Today he is a grizzled old man of 67. Although he spent 20 years of his time in
solitary confinement, Jesse Harding Pomeroy (above), America's most noted "lifer", does not feel
that the world has passed him by. He still hopes to see a trolley car, to ride in an automobile, to
fly in an airplane. August 11, 1925
