Rahway police officer
Charles Bernoskie died on patrol on a rainy November night in 1958.
While one household grieved, another scrambled to clean up two
bullet wounds.
Miller Pontiac in Rahway
was being burglarized as Charles Bernoskie began his foot patrol the
night of
Nov. 28, 1958. In the confrontation that followed, Bernoskie
exchanged gunfire with the burglars.

Rosemary Calandriello: Her
disappearance in 1969 tugged at the heart
of Atlantic Highlands

Rosemary Calandriello
vanished on her walk along Center Avenue in Atlantic Highlands on
Aug. 25, 1969.
The passenger door latch
is missing from the inside of Zarinsky's car, impounded after
the disappearance of Rosemary Calandriello.
Linda Balabanow, 17, was
found dead in the Raritan in April 1969.
Joanne Delardo of
Woodbridge was savagely killed in 1974.
Doreen Carlucci of
Woodbridge was killed in 1974. Atlantic Highlands police Sgt. Sam
Guzzi had
predicted such a calamity while Robert Zarinsky was on the loose.
Jane Durrua was killed in
1968. She was one of five teenage girls who has been brutalized
before death.
No one had been charged in their slayings.
In the years since the
brutal slaying of Jane Durrua, her sisters Dolores Ramirez, left,
and Joan Conway waited for her killer to be identified. Finally it
was announced
13-year-old Jane had been slain by a sex offender named Jerry
Bellamy.
It would be an examination
of Jane Durrua's slip that cleared Jerry Bellamy of murder.

the body.
