Taking the stand in her own defense, Jody Lynn Bowman holds the
gun she used to shoot her
boyfriend George Jupin, whom she claimed
she caught molesting her 3-year-old daughter.
Police found Jupin's dead body in the couple's bedroom. Bowman
claims this is the bed where she
caught Jupin masturbating while her
young daughter, Maddie, was lying next to him naked.
Bowman had two daughters from two previous marriages -- Sarah, who
was 9 at the time
of the shooting,
and 3-year-old Maddie. After her
arrest, her first husband, John Herndon,
took custody of both girls.
Jupin had a penchant for pornography. Police found these
pornographic materials
when they searched the house -- but that's
not all they found.
Police also discovered drugs and drug paraphrenalia. Prosecutors
claim Jupin sold drugs
for a living. His autopsy revealed cocaine
and other narcotics in his system.
Bowman fired this 9mm handgun at Jupin, killing him with a bullet
to his head. She says she fired in
self-defense when Jupin lunged at
her. The jury acquitted bowman after 11 hours of deliberation.
The victim
George Jupin had a criminal history, sold and used drugs and was
covered in tattoos and piercings,
but according to his friends who
acknowledged his flaws, was not a pedophile.
