John Carlin III

John Carlin III was convicted in a separate trial and sentenced to 99 years.
He was later beaten to death in prison.

During a interview in the Anchorage Jail on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, John Carlin III, indicated
that he wanted to take the stand during his sentencing for the murder of Kent Leppink. Carlin
thought Leppink killed himself in the bizarre decade-old case.

Weeks before he was shot and killed in May 1996, Kent Leppink went on a family vacation to Florida.
He is pictured here swimming with his nephew Colton Leppink. Kent was looking forward to kids
of his own with fiancee Mechele Hughes, now Linehan, when he was killed.

On May 2, 1996, Kent Leppink was found dead in Hope, Alaska,
with three .44 caliber bullet gunshot wounds.
