A Dangerous Woman: The murder of Carl Everson

Carl Everson, 41, was found dead at a house in Sugden Way, Barking, east London, on the morning of Sunday, October 17 2010.

He had suffered stab wounds to his neck and had been stamped on so hard a shoe imprint was left on his shoulder.

Two women were charged with murder, Tracey Antoinette Van Dungey, 43 (16/10/67) of Sugden Way, Barking, and Kelly Gentry, 40 (8/12/70), of Bedford Road, Tottenham.

On July 12, Van Dungey was convicted of murder. She was jailed for life with a minimum of 19 years before parole.

Gentry was cleared of murder but convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent. She was later jailed for 11 years.

The prosecution claimed the two women attacked Mr Everson after inviting him to Van Dungey's birthday party.

Van Dungey, who suffered from alcohol dependence syndrome, had a history of violence towards vulnerable and elderly men.

In 2005 she was jailed for 42 months for the manslaughter of her partner Kenneth Quy in Romford.

Mr Everson had moved to Norfolk to beat his drinking problem but was befriended by the two women in the street while visiting his daughter in London for her 10th birthday.

On Wednesday 13 July 2011, 43 year old Tracey Antoinette Van Dungey of Sugden Way, Barking, was found guilty of killing Carl Everson on 17th October 2010.

At the Old Bailey, Van Dungey was jailed for life with a minimum term of 19 years to be served before she can become elligible for parole.

Kelly Gentry, 40, of Bedford Road, Tottenham, was convicted of GBH with intent and will be sentenced on 16 September 2011.

Police were called just before 11.30hrs on Sunday 17 October 2010 to reports of a man dead at an address in Sugden Way, Barking. When Police and the Ambulance Service arrived they found the body of 41-year-old Mr Everson, from East Ham. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination held on Tuesday 19 October at East Ham mortuary gave cause of death as stab wounds to the neck.

Gentry and the victim had been drinking most of the day near to Van Dungey's flat in Sudgen Way. At some point they met up with Van Dungey and went back to her address where the murder took place.

Tottenham woman ‘stabbed and stamped’ on man at birthday party

Two women stabbed and battered a man to death and then boasted about it during a phone call, the Old Bailey heard.

Kelly Gentry, 40, of Bedford Road, Tottenham, and Tracey Antoinette Van Dungey, 43, allegedly murdered 41-year-old Carl Everson after inviting him to a birthday party.

He was beaten, stabbed twice in the neck and stamped on before being left to die on the living room floor of Van Dungey’s home in Sugden Way, Barking, east London, on October 17 last year.

Both women had left footprints in the victim’s blood all over the floor, jurors were told on Tuesday.

Van Dungey and Gentry were later found sitting on a patch of grass with their dogs, chatting to each other and speaking to a friend on the phone.

“During that call they had been laughing and joking. They had even been talking about Eastenders,” said prosecutor Duncan Penny, who added: “His part in this plotline had very much come to an end.”

The court heard Mr Everson had battled a drink problem but was “living the life of an alcoholic” and had visited London to see his stepdaughter and collect £300 cash.

He met the two women the day before he was found dead. Gentry and Van Dungey both deny murder. The trial continues.

Women ‘battered man and left him to die’ in Barking flat

Two women stabbed and battered a man to death and then boasted about it during a phone chat about TV soap EastEnders, the Old Bailey heard yesterday.

Tracey Antoinette Van Dungey, 43, and Kelly Gentry, 40, allegedly murdered 41-year-old Carl Everson after inviting him to a birthday party.

He was beaten, stabbed twice in the neck and stamped on before being left to die on the living room floor of Van Dungey’s home in Barking.

Both women had left footprints in the victim’s blood all over the floor, jurors were told. Van Dungey and Gentry were later found sitting on a patch of grass with their dogs, chatting to each other and speaking to a friend on the phone.

The Old Bailey heard Mr Everson had battled with the help of his family to beat his drink problem but at the time of his death was ‘living the life of an alcoholic.’

Mr Everson first met Gentry on Saturday October 16 after she spotted him lying in a flowerbed behind a bus stop in Barstable Avenue.

During that afternoon he was seen giving money to Gentry, meeting her friend Van Dungey and paying £30 for cans of superstrength lager.

He then went back to Van Dungey’s home on Sugden Way where she was holding a celebration for her birthday.

Police went to the house in the early hours of October 17 last year following a phone call from her father.

Prosecutor Duncan Penny said: “There they found the body of Carl Everson lying on the lounge floor.

“He had been savagely killed, stabbed twice through the left side of his neck, stamped upon and beaten to the head and the body.

“There was evidence of significant bleeding within the premises.

“The footwear of the defendants had left footprints in his blood and in the case of one of them on his body.”

Van Dungey, of Sugden Way, Barking and Gentry, of Bedford Road, Tottenham, north London, both deny murder. The trial continues.
