The incident took place at 4:30 a.m., local time, on
May 30 (10:30 p.m., Moscow time, on May 29) when the company commander
and five soldiers were on guard detail at ammunition depots of one the
garrisons of the Chita region.
Gorbunov opened fire with his "AK-74" submachine-gun
which left the six servicemen dead and fled in an unknown direction. The
were no witnesses of the crime.
Local police were put on alarm. The regional Federal
Security Service and military prosecutor's office have started
investigation.
Gorbunov, 20, was called to military service from the
settlement of Mogoch, Irkutsk region, in 1996. His schooling was eight
grades.
