Statement of THE CHIEF JUSTICE and MR. JUSTICE REHNQUIST:

We concur in the judgment, and join the opinion of MR. JUSTICE WHITE, agreeing with its analysis that Georgia's system of capital punishment comports with [p227] the Court's holding in Furman v. Georgia, 408 U.S. 238 (1972).
