Stressla Lynn Johnson
Multnomah County - Oregon
Born: 4/9/57
Sentenced to death: 3/28/1989
Johnson was convicted of strangling Beverly Wilder, 33, and Bobbie
Jean Johnson, 51, no relation, with telephone cords after sexually
assaulting them. The killings occurred about seven months apart in 1987.
Johnson received a death sentence for the killing of Wilder. The
Supreme Court later overturned his conviction and death sentence, saying
evidence linking him to the other murder was improperly admitted at
trial.
Interesting fact: Johnson sued Multnomah County for $10,000 in 1991,
claiming a guard had violated his civil rights by slamming his head
against a wall. A U.S. magistrate judge dismissed his suit in 1993.
Status: Life sentence.
