An all male jury recommended mercy meaning an automatic life sentence and Judge H.O. Herbert

April 2006 - Last month, federal agents and local police raided this suspected cocaine lab equipped with electricity, lighting and water on property belonging to Gary Steven Krist of Auburn. Krist is notorious for kidnapping Emory University student Barbara Jane Mackle in 1968, serving time and later becoming a doctor. Krist was arrested last month allegedly trying to smuggle 38.6 pounds of cocaine and four illegal immigrants into the country on board a chartered boat.

Materials used in a suspected cocaine lab were seized in a raid on the property of Gary Steven Krist of Auburn. The lab contained various chemicals, glassware and equipment used to process cocaine, turning cocaine paste into a powder form sold on the streets, according to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office.
