President Ma Ying-jeou apologized personally to the family of Air Force private Chiang Kuo-ching
and paid his respects to the picture of Chiang placed in the living room at his former home
in the Yonghe District of New Taipei City.

On Sept. 18, 1996, a colleague of Chiang alleged that Chiang might have been involved
in the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl surnamed Hsieh.

The Supreme Prosecutors’ Office has since charged a new suspect,
Hsu Jung-chou, with the girl’s murder.
