June 27, 2005
-
Dennis Rader entered guilty
pleas to 10 counts of first degree murder today. He waived his
right to a jury deciding the aggravating circumstances for the
Hard 40 sentence. The State rejected his waiver of evidence to
support the aggravating circumstances for the Hard 40 sentence.
Judge Gregory Waller will hear that issue at the beginning of
the sentencing proceeding scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on
August 17, 2005. Judge Gregory Waller ordered a Pre-sentence
Investigation to be completed and will sentence Dennis Rader for
all of the murder convictions at the sentencing hearing.

-
The defense filed a motion for discovery and
requested a hearing today at 9:30. The defendant waived a full
and fair hearing. The state and the defendant agreed that the
motion for discovery should only be sustained as to discovery
and inspection that is required by Kansas Statute K.S.A. 22-3212
and case law, and that the defendant's motion should be
overruled as to any definitions, discovery and inspection that
go beyond established law.
