ATHENS, Greece (AP) _ A 24-year-old law school student was accused of
killing five members of his family, dismembering their bodies and
burying them at a garbage dump, police said today.
Police said that Theofilos Sechidis confessed Thursday to murdering his
parents, sister, grandmother and an uncle on the northeastern Aegean
island of Thasos in May. They were reported missing by relatives two
months ago.
He told police he murdered each one separately over a five-day period,
hacking up their bodies and placing the remains in black plastic garbage
bags.
News of the gruesome murders, a rarity in this relatively crime-free
country, covered the front pages of almost every Athens daily paper.
Private television channels carried live coverage of police searching
for body parts.
