Los Angeles: Despite the plea for clemency from the family of
slain Robert Kennedy, Sirhan B. Sirhan was
formally sentenced to death for the assassination of the Senator.
The handwritten letter, signed by Senator
Edward Kennedy, stated in part, "My brother was a man of love and
sentiment and compassion." He would
not have wanted his death to be the cause for the taking of another
life."

Arab immigrant,
under a death sentence for the murder of Senator Robert Kennedy, was
taken from his
Los Angeles County jail cell and whisked to San Quentin.
