A man who said he wanted to be
executed ever since he strangled his ex-wife and stepdaughter two
years ago got his wish.
Benjamin Stone, 45, died by
injection Thursday. Stone refused to make a final statement,
shaking his head no as one of his sisters cried and trembled. None
of the relatives of the murder victims attended the execution.
"As far as I'm concerned, it's
the only way I'll find peace of mind," Stone said in an earlier
interview.
Stone told police he "just
snapped" when explaining why he had killed the two at the family
home in Corpus Christi.
Stone refused legal help and
refused to have appeals filed on his behalf. His execution was the
28th in Texas this year, adding to the state's ongoing record. |
